BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A popular Bellingham trail will soon be closed for most of the summer.
The Bellingham City Council approved a construction contract last week to remove a pair of fish passage barriers near the Interurban Trail at Lake Padden Creek.
The project is expected to begin in late June and will close a section of the trail between 12th Street and 14th Street south of Old Fairhaven Parkway. Trail users will likely be detoured around the closure between 10th Street and Fairhaven Park.
Construction is expected to finish in February 2026.
The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife is funding most of the project through a grant.
The city is hosting an informational open house at Happy Valley Elementary School on June 9 to answer any questions.
