MOUNT BAKER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A popular recreation area in Whatcom County is going to be accessible once more.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said in a post on social media the road up to Artist Point is in the process of getting cleared of spring snow as of Monday, June 2.
The 2.7 mile-stretch of Mount Baker Highway is closed seasonally as snowfall and ice accumulates and the road is difficult to clear.
The road reopened last year on June 21, a week earlier than in 2023.
However, there is not expected time that the final stretch of the highway will be open for travelers this year.
Drivers are currently welcome, but WSDOT warns to be aware of the crews working in the area, saying that this is an active work zone.
