MOUNT BAKER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A couple of mountaineers were rescued from Mount Baker on Tuesday.
Naval Air Station Whidbey Island sent a search and rescue team to assist the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office in rescuing the mountaineers on the North Face of the mountain a little before 11:30 a.m.
The two had become stranded when one of them, identified as a 62-year-old man, lost a boot and crampon when they tried to summit the mountain that morning.
The search and rescue team were able to reach the mountaineers in about 20 minutes as the team was already conducting an airborne training exercise.
The mountaineers were transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
