BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A jury has found PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center not liable after a couple sued over an alleged misdiagnosis.

Both the hospital and an emergency room physician who was named in the suit were found not to be negligent in Tuesday’s ruling.

The suit, filed by Patricia and Carson Parker in 2019, claims Patricia was misdiagnosed when she went to the emergency room for extreme headaches, confusion and vision loss.

According to their complaint, the doctor didn’t properly investigate Parker’s symptoms, which delayed the necessary treatment for her actual condition and made her symptoms worse.

Parker claims she suffered a stroke, permanent vision loss and a severe decline in mobility.

After a trial spanning nearly three weeks, the jury found that the doctor followed the applicable standard of care.

PeaceHealth itself was not sued but was named in the lawsuit since it was liable for the nurses in its emergency department by extension.
