OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another lawsuit over federally approved funding has been filed against the Trump administration.

State Attorney General Nick Brown sued the administration on Monday, Aug. 11 for withholding over $9 million in climate change funds.

The money was granted to several states through NOAA in 2022 and 2023, but the agency cancelled the awards for all recipients in May. Congress had approved distribution of the funds prior to its cancellation.

In Washington, the funds would have been used for a post-college tribal stewardship program and coastal preservation.

Brown argues that the withholding of funds violates the U.S. Constitution’s Spending Clause and separation of powers principles.
