SUMAS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents have returned to Sumas in the wake of evacuations and massive flooding in the small border community.
The city’s sewer system was restored on Sunday and households are able to safely use water and sanitation facilities again.
The city says the Cherry Street bridge is back open, but the border crossing remains closed.
Hovel Road at Bone Creek is also closed until further notice.
Residents are being urged to check the Better Business Bureau before hiring contractors for any restoration to avoid fraud.
They’re also being asked to check for water leaks, since pipes may have been damaged in the flood.
Anyone with questions should contact City Hall.
