The longest-tenured coach in the NFL is out of a job.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that Mike Tomlin is stepping down after 19 years as head coach. He didn’t have a single losing season during the nearly two-decade-long run.

The announcement comes after the Steelers fell to the Houston Texans 30-6 last night in the wild card round.

The 53-year-old Tomlin leaves Pittsburgh tied for the 10th most wins by a head coach in NFL history. The Steelers will now begin the search for just their fourth head coach since 1969.

Seahawks News

The start time has been announced for the Seahawks’ first game of the playoffs.

Seattle will kick off against its rival San Francisco 49ers at 5:00 on Saturday at Lumen Field. Their divisional round game will serve as a rubber match after they split their two regular season games.

The Seahawks’ coaching staff has been busy over the bye week, with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak interviewing with three teams for their vacant head coaching positions and defensive coordinator Aden Durde interviewing with two.

The Kraken rallied to get a big win in the Big Apple last night.

Rookie Berkly Catton scored a tie-breaking goal in the third period to help lift Seattle over the New York Rangers 4-2.

The Rangers had a 2-0 lead after the first period, but Eeli Tolvanen and Jordan Eberle each scored in the second to even things up. Catton went on to score the winning goal midway through the third period and Jared McCann added an insurance score to secure the win.

The Kraken have now won 9 of their last 12 matches heading into tomorrow’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

The Seattle Reign have signed their head coach to a multiyear extension.

The club announced today that it’s extending Laura Harvey through 2028.

Harvey is the Reign’s original coach who returned for her second stint with the team in 2021. She’s the winningest coach in NWSL history and has led the Reign to three league finals, most recently in 2023.

Taking a look at high school basketball scores from last night…

The Meridian boys held off a furious 4th quarter rally by Nooksack Valley to edge the Pioneers 64-63.

The Nooksack girls beat Meridian 39-22.

The Squalicum girls topped Mount Vernon 38-31.

The Storm boys beat Mount Vernon 52-43.

The Bellingham girls lost to Lakewood 78-38.

And the Bayhawk boys also fell to Lakewood 80-51.

 

Coming up tonight, we’ve got more high school basketball on the radio for you.

The Mount Baker girls are hosting Lynden Christian in a matchup between two of the top 1A schools in the county. The Lyncs still have yet to lose a league game, while the Mountaineers boast one of the best players in the county in Rebecca Soares, who’s among the league leaders in points, rebounds and blocks.
