Mariners News

The Mariners are kicking off a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds tonight.

It will be Eugenio Suarez’s first game back at T-Mobile Park since his massive grand slam in the ALCS last year that gave the M’s a 3-2 series edge heading back to Toronto before they lost in 7 games.

Seattle’s coming off a pair of much-needed wins against the San Francisco Giants over the weekend. The Mariners got stunned 7-0 in the series opener Friday before Julio Rodriguez hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in extra innings on Saturday.

Then, they won 6-3 yesterday thanks to a pair of late home runs by Luke Raley and Cole Young. Logan Gilbert struck out 10 through six solid innings to help the M’s climb back to an even 50-50 record on the season.

George Kirby is on the mound for tonight’s opener against the Reds. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

World Cup News

A wild World Cup has come to an end in the U.S.

Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the tournament final yesterday to win their second-ever men’s World Cup. Substitute Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute to give his team the edge over Lionel Messi and the defending champs in New Jersey.

Despite the close final score, Spain was dominant in terms of possession and shot attempts.

The World Cup may be over, but the soccer calendar never really stops.  In just a few weeks, many of the tournament’s biggest stars will be back with their clubs in leagues such as England’s Premier League, Spain’s La Liga and Germany’s Bundesliga.

Europe’s best clubs also meet in the Champions League, widely regarded as the highest level of club soccer.

Meanwhile, MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX are already in full swing.  The Sounders are back on Wednesday against Austin FC.

Meanwhile, in women’s soccer, the Reign fell to Gotham FC 3-2 on Saturday.

Bells News

The Bells are back at home tonight.

They’re hosting the Kelowna Falcons in the first of a three-game series.

Bellingham’s coming off a series win up in Kamloops, having won two out of three games over the weekend against the NorthPaws. The Bells fell in the opener, but combined to score 19 runs over the next two games.

Matt Churchill highlighted yesterday’s 8-0 win with four hits and two runs. Robby Zimmerman and Nic Peterson each tossed four scoreless innings in the Bells’ fourth shutout of the season.

They’re still a ways away from first place in the second half of the season, but are holding on to a top four finish in the full season standings, which would be enough to send them to the playoffs.

First pitch for tonight’s game against Kelowna is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field.

Storm News

The Storm are back at home tonight as they look to snap their latest skid.

They’re hosting the Minnesota Lynx at 7:00. It follows a heartbreaking loss for the Storm in the final game of their road trip on Friday.

They fell to the Indiana Fever by just three points in a back-and-forth affair.

Indiana had a 17-point lead midway through the second quarter, but Seattle stormed back to take an 8-point lead late in the fourth. But Caitlin Clark scored 14 of the Fever’s final 22 points to lead the comeback win and hand the Storm their fourth straight loss.

Clark finished with a career-high 45 points and had 10 assists for the first 40-10 game in WNBA history.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are gearing up for the start of training camp this Saturday, but they’ll be without a key player.

Second-year safety Nick Emmanwori was among three names on the team’s physically unable to perform, or PUP, list that was released today.

It was unexpected, given Emmanwori’s participation in minicamp and OTAs so far this offseason. It’s not currently known what injury he’s dealing with.

Emmanwori can return from the PUP list at any point during training camp, but if he’s still on the list by the time rosters are finalized, he’ll miss Seattle’s first four games of the regular season.

He is coming off a highly-successful rookie season that saw him finish second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Hawks fans can still buy tickets to attend training camp, which runs from this Saturday through August 13.
