BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham cold storage facility was damaged following a weekend fire.

Fire Captain Dustin Michaelis tells My Bellingham Now that several witnesses reported the fire at the Hilton Avenue building Saturday night, Sept. 12.

Crews arrived and attempted to tackle the fire from inside, but the risk of the roof collapsing forced them to retreat.

Ladder trucks from both Bellingham Fire and Whatcom Fire District 7 were able to suppress the flames by directing water onto the roof.

No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported. Captain Michaelis adds that frozen fish products kept inside the facility were destroyed. Nearby office spaces attached to the building weren’t affected by the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
