BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local non-profit is expanding its access for aquatic recreation.

The Port of Bellingham with the Community Boating Center (CBC) announced Friday, Oct. 23 that construction has begun on a new kayak dock and pocket beach in Bellingham Bay.

The 140-foot floating dock, located near the CBC in Fairhaven, will act as an accessible hand-launch facility for the public.

CBC Executive Director Bryan Rust said in a statement that the new dock was designed to prioritize inclusion and accessibility for paddlers and sailors with disabilities.

A $500,000 grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office helped to fund the dock, which will be ready for use in early 2027.

My Bellingham Now previously reported on the CBC’s efforts to provide accessibility for those with mobility challenges, including the construction of wheelchair lifts for their accessible sailing vessels.
