EVERETT, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – New data is offering a closer look at police use of force across Washington.
Washington Attorney General’s Office highlighted the state’s police use-of-force database during a community forum in Everett Thursday, Oct. 22. The system tracks serious use-of-force incidents reported by law enforcement agencies statewide.
State law requires agencies to report more serious uses of force, including incidents involving weapons, Tasers, police dogs, chokeholds, serious injuries or physical strikes by officers.
Locally, those incidents remain relatively rare compared with the volume of calls officers respond to.
The dashboard’s 2026 data shows Bellingham Police reported 14 uses of force during more than 43,000 calls for service, up from four incidents in 2025.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reported no incidents this year after reporting one last year.
Statewide, the database has recorded more than four million calls for service and over 1,800 reportable uses-of-force incidents since launching last year.
