WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Enrollment is about to open for Washington residents looking to sign up for health insurance.

Open enrollment for the state’s individual health insurance market begins on Sunday, Nov. 1, and lasts through Jan. 15, 2027.

It offers plans for people who don’t receive health coverage through their employer, along with self-employed residents and early retirees.

Residents have until Dec. 31 to sign up for a plan that starts on Jan. 1, 2027. Anyone who signs up between Jan. 1 and 15 will have their plan begin on Feb. 1.

It comes after new federal requirements recently made certain noncitizens ineligible for Medicaid in Washington. Still, all state residents, regardless of immigration status, can buy qualified health and dental plans through the state’s individual market.

Coordinated Care Corporation, Kaiser and Lifewise have all been approved to offer individual coverage in Whatcom County in 2027.

According to the state, nearly 250,000 residents bought individual health plans this year.
