FERNDALE, Wash. – A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of late state Senator Doug Ericksen, who died in December 2021 after contracting COVID-19.

His widow, Tasha Ericksen, says The Doug Ericksen Legacy Fund will offer at least two $1,000 scholarships beginning this year.

“There will be one for a student going on to a four-year college,” said Ericksen. “And then one for somebody that’s intending to go to a two-year or technical program.”

They are also offering community mini grants to local organizations.

“Anywhere from $100 to up to a couple thousands for projects they’ve been thinking about doing but can’t get the funding,” said Ericksen. “So, kind of an area of youth programs or civic engagement of community projects.”

Applications for both scholarships and mini grants are due March 15th and can be made at the legacy fund’s website.

They are also accepting tax-deductible donations.
