COUPEVILLE, Wash. – A pair of memorials will take place this weekend for the late orca Tokitae.
The first will be held on Saturday, September 9th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma.
The event will include opportunities for those in attendance to share memories about Tokitae and a waterside ceremony to honor her and her family.
Then, Coast Salish Elders will host the first in a series of salmon ceremonies to celebrate Tokitae in Coupeville on Sunday, September 10th.
It takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. on the shores of Penn Cove where she was captured 53 years ago.
Everyone is requested to wear black and white.
The 57-year-old Southern Resident orca passed away at the Miami Seaquarium on August 18th.
The Orca Network says they hope to livestream both events for those who aren’t able to go in person.
