LAKE SAMISH, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Be prepared for delays on I-5 between Bellingham and Burlington over the next few weeks.

WSDOT says the southbound off-ramp to Alger/Lake Samish Road closed at noon on Monday, July 6.

It’s expected to remain closed until Aug. 3 while crews replace a fish passage barrier near Lake Samish. A signed detour is in place using Nulle Road until the ramp reopens.

The ramp closure comes as both directions of I-5 near Lake Samish will be reduced to one lane starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, and lasting through Saturday, July 25.

Speed limits will be reduced to 60 mph through the work area.

WSDOT is encouraging passenger vehicles to consider using SR 9 or Chuckanut Drive to avoid delays, while trucks should just use SR 9.
