MLB News

The Final Four of the MLB playoffs is nearly set.

The Dodgers and Brewers each won last night to set up a showdown in the National League Championship Series. The defending champion Dodgers are looking to return to their third straight World Series.

The Rays also swept the Yankees last night with the help of a fan interference call to make their first ALCS appearance since 2020. There, they’ll face either the White Sox or Guardians, with the two set to face off in Game 4 of their divisional series tonight.

The White Sox have a chance to advance to the ALCS for the first time since 2005, while the Guardians are looking to once again stave off elimination. First pitch is at 5:00 from Chicago.

New proposals are seeking to dramatically alter the Major League Baseball season.

ESPN reports the MLB is proposing to shorten the regular season to 154 games starting in 2029 and expand the division series to a best-of-seven format.

Baseball has operated on a 162-game schedule since 1960. The shorter season wouldn’t reduce players’ yearly salaries, but bonuses and other contract provisions would be adjusted proportionally.

The owners also want to let higher-seeded teams choose their opponents in both the wild card and division series.

Today’s proposals came as part of negotiations with the MLB Players Association over a new collective bargaining agreement. The MLBPA says it’s reviewing the proposals and says any changes are contingent on players agreeing to a salary cap, which the union has strongly pushed back against.

NFL News

Week 5 of the NFL season is kicking off tonight.

The Cowboys are hosting the Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football.

Tampa’s searching for their first win of the season as rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels makes his second career start in the absence of Baker Mayfield, who’s dealing with a dislocated right thumb.

Dallas owns the second-highest scoring offense in the NFL, but also has a bottom-five scoring defense. Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb is coming off a career game against the Texans last week, catching 17 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.

Coverage for tonight’s game begins at 4:30 and kickoff is at 5:20 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are gearing up to host their rival 49ers on Sunday in a matchup between arguably two of the top teams in the league.

Prep Football News

Whatcom County has some Thursday Night Football of its own coming up.

Lynden Christian is hosting Archbishop Murphy to kick off Week 6 of the prep football season.

LC senior running back Chris Kooiman will look to build on a massive game last week where he set school records for career rushing yards, career rushing touchdowns and rushing yards in a single-game.

The Lyncs enter the matchup as the 3rd-ranked 1A team in the state, per the latest coach’s poll. But it will take a lot to topple the defending 2A state champion Wildcats.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:00 from Lynden Christian.

The Zone’s Friday Night Lights pregame show will be live from Deming tomorrow ahead of Mt. Baker’s showdown against Nooksack Valley on KPUG.

We’ll also be airing Lynden’s games against Anacortes on KBAI.
