The Kraken are back tonight for their second home game of the season.

They’re hosting the defending Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights.

Seattle’s been off to an impressive start with a pair of 6-1 wins over the Calgary Flames, first on the road, then in their home opener on Sunday. Their sole loss came in Edmonton against the Pacific Division-leading Oilers.

The Golden Knights are coming off a one-score win over the Canucks up north.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks’ latest attempt to bolster their banged-up running back room is a no-go.

ESPN reports the team has decided not to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical.

The team was reportedly planning to sign the 2x Pro Bowler, but it was contingent on passing a physical. The 30-year-old Mixon hasn’t played since 2024 after injuring his foot.

The Seahawks instead signed running back Robert Henry Jr. off the Commanders’ practice squad today and waived safety AJ Finley, while also signing former Ravens running back and Seattle native Dontae McMillan to their practice squad.

Zach Charbonnet isn’t expected to return for Sunday’s game against the 49ers and first-round rookie Jadarian Price will miss at least three more games after being placed on the injured reserve with a chest injury.

NFL News

A former Huskies star led his team to another impressive win last night.

Michael Penix threw for 223 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons’ 45-24 win over the Saints to cap off Week 4 of the NFL season. Atlanta’s running backs also combined for over 200 yards and five touchdowns as they picked up their second-straight win.

In other football news, Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement today. The 36-year-old won two Super Bowls and made six Pro Bowls over his 14 seasons in Philly.

MLB News

The MLB playoffs continue today with a pair of National League matchups.

First up, the Dodgers are playing the Braves in Atlanta at 3 pm with the series tied at one game apiece.

Later on, the Brewers have a chance to advance to the NLCS if they can beat the Padres. First pitch for that game is at 6:30 from San Diego.

All the American League action happened last night, as the White Sox and Rays each earned wins to move one game away from facing off in the ALCS.

Prep Hoops News

One of Whatcom County’s top hoopers is going D-I.

Mount Baker senior Rebeca Soares announced on social media that she’s committed to Iowa State.

The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 18.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game during her junior year with the Mountaineers last season, according to WhatcomPreps. She also combined for nearly six steals and blocks per game.

Soares will join a Cyclones program that’s coming off six straight tournament appearances and five straight 20-win seasons.

Meanwhile, a pair of basketball teams in the county are under new leadership.

Sehome announced that Keith Browne is taking over as head coach of their boys basketball team. Browne played two seasons at Eastern Washington University between 2001 and 2003.

Former Ferndale coach Luke DuChesne was originally tabbed to take over for coaching legend Brad Jackson, but the school says he resigned for personal reasons.

Ferndale also announced that Kendall Engelhart is taking over for DuChesne as the Golden Eagles’ new boys coach.

Engelhart played at Squalicum before playing at Big Bend Community College and Edmonds College. This will be his first head coaching gig after assisting at Bellingham and Ferndale.
