BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new report is listing Bellingham as one of the cleanest cities in the nation for air quality.
The American Lung Association released its annual “State of the Air” report, which used data from 2022 through 2024.
Whatcom and Skagit counties each received “A” grades for ground-level ozone pollution, with Bellingham ranking among the cleanest cities in the U.S.
But both counties also received “C” grades for short-term particle pollution, which is based each area’s smokiest days of the year.
The Northwest Clean Air Agency attributes those grades to high levels of wildfire smoke in some years covered by the report.
Both counties still received the highest grades in the state for particle pollution, as no county scored higher than a “C.”
Seattle-Tacoma ranked among the most polluted cities in the country.
