WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County health officials are keeping an eye on Ebola, despite an extremely low risk to the public.
Whatcom County Health and Community Services (WCHCS) confirmed a report from Cascadia Daily News it’s monitoring a small number of residents who recently returned from a country in Africa that’s experiencing the outbreak.
Still, the department reiterated that there are currently no Ebola cases—or even reported symptoms—in Whatcom County or the United States.
Ebola has been a hot topic recently in light of the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
WCHCS said it monitors any travelers returning from impacted areas of the world.
Local healthcare providers are also required to immediately notify the county of any suspected Ebola cases or other viral fevers.
