SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Legal pro tip: jumping into a body of water isn’t the best way to try and outrun a state trooper.

WSP shared footage of a recent incident on Highway 9 in Skagit County, where a motorcyclist was caught speeding 20 mph over the posted limit.

The suspect rider refused to stop for troopers, even as the motorcycle appeared to run into mechanical issues.

A motorcycle trooper caught up with the suspect as he abandoned the bike, but not before the suspect made a last-ditch escape effort by running off and jumping into a lake.

The trooper pulled him out of the very shallow end of a lake and took him into custody.

Investigators later learned the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

Jail records show the 57-year-old man had warrants out for his arrest on burglary and theft charges.
