BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Transportation announced that Mount Baker Highway has opened back up between Britton and Noon Roads in Bellingham.

Detours and road closures are no longer in effect, but drivers should expect single-lane closures starting on Tuesday, October 3rd.

Crews will still be doing stream work and landscaping as they put the finishing touches on the road.

They aim to have all work done by November.

But you planned on heading up the mountain, the Mount Baker highway will be closed on Tuesday, October 3rd, at the Excelsior Trailhead just east of Glacier for annual winter maintenance.

Crews will have the highway fully closed between mile post 41 and 52 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

You can still head up the mountain if you want to though, but you must be past mile post 54 near Heather Meadows before 7:30 and will not be able to get off the mountain until the road reopens at 4.

The road to Artist Point usually closes for the season in late fall or early winter after the season’s first significant snowfall.
