ORCAS ISLAND, WA. – (KGMI.com) A large vessel recently sank off Orcas Island and multiple agencies are working to clean up the mess.

The U.S. Coast Guard says they responded to reports of an 80-foot vessel sinking at the West Sound Marina on Saturday, November 18th.

The vessel named El Capitan was rapidly sinking and an oil sheen was observed after it sank next to a pier in around 30 feet of water.

The Coast Guard notified the Island Oil Spill Association who worked with the marina to deploy booms and absorbents.

The Washington State Department of Ecology also responded to the incident.

Authorities continue to observe the sunken vessel for any more pollution threats and the area is still boomed in.

The marina is currently working with state officials to determine what to do with the vessel moving forward.
