BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) Additional capacity is being offered for those seeking shelter over the holiday weekend.

Bellingham’s Severe Weather Shelter on North State Street will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on both Saturday, December and Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 20’s this weekend.

Marie Duckworth with Whatcom County Health and Community Services adds that the decision to open the shelter was made to inform volunteers of the staffing needs during the holiday weekend.

Additional shelter space will be available at the Civic Field locker rooms and at Base Camp.
