BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The Whatcom Racial Equity Commission is seeking residents to fill its open positions.

The commission was created through the Whatcom County Council in October 2022 in an effort to eliminate all forms of racial inequity throughout the county.

Its 15 appointed member roles will be made up of two diversity officers or staff members that work in schools, two human service providers, one social justice advocate, one representative from a philanthropic organization, one faith leader and one multilingual health care provider.

The commission will also include up to seven community members with at least one student, immigrant, business owner, legal guardian or young adult aged 16 to 24.

Approved members of the commission will gather, review and evaluate data to make recommendations on how to best support diversity and inclusion in the county.

Applications are due by February 29 at 11:59 p.m.
