BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A lawsuit has been filed against the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office following a crash involving one of their deputies.
Court documents state that a Bellingham woman was hit by the deputy, identified as Carson Laughlin, on Jan. 20.
The woman, Tracey Wiebe, claims that she was waiting several cars behind a school bus to turn left onto Saratoga Place.
As she slowed down to make the turn, she noticed Dep. Laughlin’s car cross over the center line and pass vehicles behind her at a high speed.
Wiebe was unable to move in time and was hit, causing her car to spin out and the deputy’s car to roll over.
Both drivers were hospitalized at the time. No other cars were involved and no one else was hurt.
Wiebe’s lawsuit is asking for an unspecified amount of damages from the sheriff’s office, Laughlin and other parties.
