BLAINE, Wash. – A Blaine man was arrested on Thursday, July 13th, on charges of kidnapping and vehicle theft.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater said deputies were called to a vehicle theft and kidnapping report at a residence on Hall Road in Blaine at about 3:45 p.m.

The suspect had stolen a car with a minor in the front seat and drove it several blocks before parking it and fleeing on foot.

Another caller then reported a man attempting to enter his vehicle but the suspect ran off again.

A witness in the area followed the suspect as he ran northbound on Blaine Road until he was contacted by deputies.

Police arrested 31-year-old Travis Parke on probable cause for theft of a motor vehicle, attempted vehicle prowl 2nd degree and kidnapping 2nd degree.

Parke remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
