OLYMPIA, Wash. – A recent decision in the State Supreme Court has ordered Petrogas Pacific LLC to pay what could amount to $15 million in taxes to Whatcom County.
The Northern Light reports the company that owns and operates a terminal at Cherry Point had been appealing their assessed property values every year since 2016, and only paying taxes on what they believed the value was.
The appeals were denied through multiple courts before the State Supreme Court gave their verdict earlier this month.
An assessor for Whatcom County says this will benefit all property owners next year who have been paying more tax because of Petrogas’s underpaying.
